See the Light 05/24/2011

Hey kitties! Happy summer!! I've been very busy, but I have lots of updates for you!

A few weeks ago I collaborated with fellow artists on a lighting workshop, 'See the Light'  put together by Anthony DeCarlo. Anthony is a New Haven based photographer and shoots weddings, portraits, and special events. He organized his workshop for photographers to learn different lighting techniques, setups, etc. And that's where I came in, amongst a number of talented artists, to style the models. Anyways it was a long, but fun filled day Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Hello and Happy Sunday! I wanted to share with you my favorite hair products that I use on a daily basis...First off, the following products are from the L'anza Healing Haircare line. Their products have a little something for every hairtype, whether your hair is curly, fine, dry, damaged, etc. Many of us rely on a product that makes our hair appear shiny and healthy but are they really improving the actual health and integrity of our hair? Sadly, many products contain harsh chemicals that improve the appearance, but not the actual structure. Along comes L'anza whose products are formulated to both heal and make your hair look good by using natural botanical herbs, amino acids, and moisturizers. They are paraben free, sulfate free, and carcinogen free.

I work in an eco friendly salon that not only strives to use as little chemicals as possible, but actually cares about the environment and health of our client's hair. There are many hairdressers who don't care and will push the limits of your hair without taking into account the longrun effects. We use ammonia free hair color and natural based products because in the long run your hair is going to look and be much healthier. Plus, how are these chemicals affecting your overall health as well as the environment???

Stay tuned for a video of me showing the use/ingredients of some of these products!!

A few weeks ago I did a photoshoot alongside my favorite team of talent. That's right, I collaborated with David Apuzzo Photography, Tara Abate (MUA), and Valentina D'Amore (Model) yet again! They are extremely talented and every time we collaborate it's pure magic/fun/awesomeness.

Anyways, the shoot was for Dicks Cottons sunglasses and we decided to shoot it at a local winery. Dicks Cottons sunglasses have been seen on and worn by the cast of Jersey Shore, so we decided to stick with the Italian theme. Lucky for us, Tara's family owns the Dalice Elizabeth Winery in Preston, CT. They not only let us have complete use of the facilities, but they welcomed us with a cheese spread and their very own wine!

Check out all the photos, including a link to a behind the scenes video by David Apuzzo!

My first 5K! 03/23/2011

Hi again!!! I'm trying to be awesome about updating this blog, sooo you just my get two posts tonight!!!
Soo this past weekend me, Dorothy, and Amanda from the salon took part in the Max o' Hartford 5k race and it was a blast! It was our first race, and I'm pretty sure it won't be my last, I'm already thinking when's the next race? My fellow co-worker Dorothy, made us some fantastic t-shirts complete with puff paint and foam shamrocks.

Anyways, we arrived early and it was cooold. I had so many layers on and within the first few minutes of running, I was sweating my face off. I tried removing the hoodie underneath but only looked like a flailing fool. The race was pretty much level ground, with a few inclines but was a nice scenic route through Hartford, nonetheless. And what better than to end the race with free reubens????

Enjoy the pics!

Anyone else tune in to watch the Oscar's tonight? Best film, best actress, best supporting role... But what about best hair on the red carpet?! Well here is one of my favorites, Reese Witherspoon. I love the retro, yet soft and bouncy feel it has. What do YOU think?

Last month I had the opportunity to expand my skills as a stylist and be a part of an awesome collaboration. You might remember Valentina from a previous post for which we did a photoshoot with. She is a talented actress, model, entertainer, and the list goes on and on!!! Valentina co-hosted an event, 'The Future of Music'  which showcased new up and coming artists. She came up with the idea to impersonate a few celebrities while introducing the artists, including Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Ke$ha, Snookie & Cher. My job was to create custom wigs based on each 'character' and what a blast it was!!!

Valentina made each of her costumes, they were outstanding!! The finished looks were perfect, including the makeup artistry of Tara Abate http://www.taraabate.com
